5 Great Ways to Reduce Stress for College Students 

College experience is stressful. There are papers to write, tests to take, friends and roommates who just will not leave you alone. This kind of life can be overwhelming at first. Here are some tips for college students that can help you improve your college experience and even raise you GPA.

1. Mistakes are Something Everybody Makes

Sometimes it is hard to find ways to feel better about your situation and yourself. If it were simple, people would have stopped wondering how to reduce stress long time ago. The main thing to remember is that you are not alone. Everybody gets overwhelmed and everybody makes stupid mistakes. Instead of punishing yourself, try to deal with these issues constructively and learn how to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.

2. Listen to Music

Ways to reduce stress in collegeAmong all the stress relievers, music is my favorite. It is so diverse that anyone can find a genre that suits them. Music affects emotions and has a marvelous ability to make us focus our attention. It is often used to fight depression as it affects our brain in ways that are not fully studied yet. Find something that works for you. You can even create separate playlists for different purposes, including study, workouts, relaxation, and so on.

3. Enjoy Pleasant Scents

It is another relaxant directly connected to your senses. The sense of smell is often underappreciated. Different smells can be connected to important memories: opening a bag of coffee can bring you back to your mom’s kitchen when you miss your family. Pleasant smells are generally very stimulating, so take advantage of this when you are exhausted. Even a quick visit to a perfume store can be a revelation.

4. Buy Some Candy

We have now reached the sense of taste. Indulging your taste buds can be very stimulating. If you are worried about weight, just try peppermints instead of chocolate bars. They activate your senses, satisfy cravings, and make you feel a bit better. As a bonus, sucking on a peppermint or chewing a gum when you are sleepy can prevent you from embarrassingly falling asleep in the middle of a class.

5. Find Yourself a Company

In order to get rid of stress, you can just try talking about it. Telling a friend or a family member about all the things you are going through is a great source of comfort and relief. You may even get a hug in the end. Just make sure it is someone close to you but not a random stranger in a bar.

There are numerous ways to relieve stress. Some people keep journals, others volunteer to help those in need. Try different things to see what really works for you. And if stress persists, there is no shame in taking a break for a couple of days to take care of yourself.
