Are you one of those people whose birthday coincides with the beginning of the school year? If yes, as a fresher, you probably think that it’s going to be lame because this is your first year of independent life, your nearest and dearest are miles away, and you need to step out of your comfort zone each day meeting a bunch of strangers in the hallways and during classes. I do get your frustration, but I want to show you a couple of ways how to make this day memorable even if you feel lonely and don’t have anything special arranged.
Pamper Yourself with Delicious Food
There’s no better way to lift your spirits on your birthday than eating something truly tasty. You can either opt for a scrumptious dessert in the dining hall or visit a local store/bakery/café and splurge on something you’ve craved for a long time.
Indulge in a Shopping Spree
Your birthday is a perfect occasion for presents. Even if you’re on a shoestring budget, you deserve to buy yourself something you would enjoy, especially on a day like this. Who said that you can’t buy yourself a present?
Call Your Family
Most of college students don’t have an opportunity to celebrate their birthdays in the family circle for a couple of reasons, such as a long drive, lack of money, or their overwhelming schedules. Luckily, modern technologies enable you to be closer to your family by means of Skype, WhatsApp, FaceTime, etc.
Come up with a New Birthday Tradition
It’s always thrilling to have something special planned on your birthday, especially if it’s something you do solely on your birthdays. As for me, I go to an atmospheric café with live music exactly once a year, when my birthday comes. You can jazz up your birthday with other interesting rituals like listening to a certain music album in a meaningful for you setting or watching a specific episode of your favorite TV show.
Play a Game
If you’ve already befriended someone, you can invite him/her over and check out a new video game or card game. Fun is guaranteed, and as a bonus you’ll have a chance to get to know them a bit better.
Immerse Yourself in the World of Netflix
I bet binging on Netflix is something you would do with great relish. Go ahead then! Watch whatever you want and as much as you want on your birthday, and don’t you dare to feel guilty.
Prepare Yourself a Card
You don’t have to be gifted to do this. Making yourself a digital or paper card is another way to make your birthday more eventful. You can write why you think you’re awesome or enlist your long-term goals. It’s always inspiring to take a moment and bask in self-admiration once in a blue moon.
