People change their identity because they get use to one thing they want to see something different in their personality which is hard to bring in real life and easier to do in cyberspace.
Cyberspace has lot of psychological effects on people that vary from person to person, some people thinks it's a place where you can find solutions for your personal issues because in reality they are shy to express their self to others and feel confident to use cyberspace solutions for their personal issues this point could be supported by my personal experience that I cannot express some things in real world but I can do that in cyberspace because I feel more confident, not shy and as a result of that I have more online friends all over the world than the friends I have in real world...
