Cap. Ahab was destroyed by Moby Dick when they first met, this defeat lead to anger and revenge but not to defeat. The citation used in the novella: "?.." underlines the conflicts, destiny, judgments and ending of the two works.
In both works we have symbols: three days of the hunt, the sharks in "The old man and the sea" and The White Whale seen as evil, the dream of Santiago with lions on the beach and Ahab's golden doubloon as a prize for the first one to spot the whale which symbolizes faith, hope etc...
